I hope a lot of people truly do “all that they can.” One issue Biden had was that the fact that he was staying in contradicted the “Donald Trump is an existential threat,” message. If that was true, why were we running a guy with one foot in the grave?
Now, dropping out is without much precedent and shows that Dems truly view Trump as an existential threat. To that end, it’s time for all hands on deck. Surrogates should be campaigning as if they’re on the ticket. The party and the campaign and Biden need to make it clear, they will notice who does and doesn’t step up and they will remember. And the Obama’s and Clinton’s damn well better lead that charge. Events every day, wherever the KH campaign wants them.
On the ticket or not, Pete, Whitmer, Newsom, Shapiro, Warnock, etc should be doing events as often as their current jobs allow. Daily, if possible.
Taking it a step farther, they need to offer a cabinet post to Romney or Cheney before the convention. Find one they can stomach, and put a true to the core conservative on the campaign trail for Kamala too. Make the message clear: it’s so important to beat Trump that we’re willing to give up some of the administration’s power and policy making, and a conservative is willing to join hands and actively campaign against the GOP.
Yeah, it’s kind of West Wingy, but these times call for it. Give Romney Secretary of State as far as I’m concerned. He’s not going to do anything awful with regard to Ukraine. How much worse is he going to suck on Israel than Blinken presumably has?

I don’t know that either adds anything and I feel like there’s at least a small risk of turning off some of the younger voters with a move like that.
ETA: Get an endorsement from them if you can, but let’s not preemptively make either of them out to be Arnold Vinick.

Joe Biden got a lot of centrist/center-right votes. That’s a tougher coalition for Kamala to hold together, so while she can add in other lanes, I think she should think outside the box in that one. I’m not saying give away HHS or HUD or DHS, but if making Mitt Romney Sec of State takes us from 55% to 60% or whatever, it’s worth it.
As much as I hate to reward her for her behavior the last eight years, FML I can’t believe I’m typing this, Susan Collins may make the most sense. It serves a similar purpose and flips a Senate seat. A potentially decisive Senate seat.

On the one hand, historically a cabinet secretary has considerably more power to actually do things in the country than a VP, unless the Senate is 50-50 exactly. On the other hand, SCOTUS just gutted the administrative state, so cabinet secretaries may now be figureheads while judges determine how laws get executed going forward.
