I know there was a tweet at some point claiming that the left-wing political donation was made by a different person with the same name as the shooter.
But mainstream news outlets are still reporting it’s the same person, e.g., this Reuters article from earlier today:
Public records show his father is a registered Republican and his mother a registered Democrat, and that as a 17-year-old Crooks made a $15 donation to a Democratic Party cause.
I struggle with this because it’s a good reason to be skeptical of things right up until it isn’t. It’s the same reason the idea of a Trump presidency sounded completely laughable in 2016 all the way up until election night - that wasn’t the way politics worked in this country, until it was.
I’m just super skeptical of the data we’re seeing right now. A big chunk shows a massive realignment based on age and race. This shows widespread ticket splitting which I’d be interested in seeing if it’s ever happened. I’d buy a poll showing Biden getting trounced along with dems in general, but show me a poll that implies 1 in 5 people voting for a Democratic senator peel off to Donald Trump and I’m going to hit the doubt button
Another thought left dangling from my above post - 2024 Biden is the worst major party campaigner of the last 30+ years, right? I do think his administration has a good record to run on, but just looking at the “go in public or on TV and impress voters” part of the job of campaigning for president - we all agree '24 Biden is terrible at that shit, right? Romney and McCain and Kerry and Hillary and Gore were all better at that aspect (and the only reason I can’t go back farther is not being even a teenager yet for prior elections). So maybe it’s not unreasonable to account for not-in-30-years types of occurrences under these conditions.
It’s as simple as nobody really liked Biden in the first place and now many think he is senile and unqualified. He is one of the worst presidential candidates in our lifetime. Maybe the worst. His term was pretty good but ya as far as a political candidate he is a dead man walking both literally and figuratively.
Also elections happen so infrequently that you never really hit a meaningful sample size before times change. Trying to draw conclusions on a handful of elections is a fools errand.
when the hearings start, the director of the USSS should be like “we had a sufficient budget to protect big daddy, but he blew all the cash by making our agents stay in his shitty ‘resorts’ and gouging them on the rates”
“How ever old and tired this guy looks, he just absolutely wafflecrushed the other guy heads up so pointing stuff like this out only makes the other guy look even more pathetic.”
