You make the choice either drop out as a hero and take a curtain call at the DNC or stay in and be the first sitting president to run despite the public opposition of a majority of his party’s members of Congress, with a completely doomed campaign.
A new MRI showing some sort of quasi recent stroke actually would be GOAT outcome here even if wasn’t actually related. Could say hey this new medical thing popped up, gotta step down and nobody would have to admit to any sort of coverup/etc.
We’ve reached the point where the argument can be made that the best possible outcome is “our guy, who’s the sitting president, recently had a stroke!”
Wonder how good that “name recognition” adjustment really is, feels like that some secret sauce there. To me seems hard to make a case between one those 3 based only on polling they that relatively close
Btw I have been and actually still am a pretty big fan of Biden presidency but it is going to be monumentally tilting when he gets the nom
Not that often a party can have a quasi viable ability to realize they fucked up and get a potential redo gotta at least give it a go and roll the dice
To me the swing state polls are more useful. If Big Gretch is the only one consistently polling in safe territory in a swing state, and one that correlates big time with two others, that’s an obvious strategic advantage.
My in-laws are also in that age range and have been excited for Biden since 2020 and often talk about what a great job he’s doing. When we had dinner at their house on Friday the news mentioned the debate and my MIL grumbled “oh they’re just going to keep talking about this all day” but that was all they said about it while we were there.
My wife texted her brother later asking about it and he said that they were super disappointed and embarrassed by Biden’s debate performance. I don’t know if they want him to drop out but I think it was eye opening to them just how much Biden’s lost his sharpness.
I feel like if Trump were running against Whitmer or Shapiro or Newsom or Pete, he’d be polling worse in mental fitness than he currently is. Mostly because regardless of how it’s framed, there’s a compare and contrast element… But also because they’d skewer him in the debate.
I don’t care if the candidate is 41 or 81, when you’re the VP the answer to “Are you ready to lead the country if necessary,” is “Yes, I wouldn’t have taken the position if not.” Add whatever you want after that, but you damn well better be about to express confidence that you’re ready.
This entire administration has turned into the gang that can’t shoot straight seemingly overnight.
