Invasion of Ukraine: Why Doesn't Russia Concede Kursk and Negotiate Peace?

Who wanted this guy dead? He one the ones been complaining about Putin?

pro-war russian blogger, seen at the kremlin in a ceremony last year saying russia will kill everyone. probably not good for the tensions atm.

But is he one the ones who has started complaining that Russia not killing everyone enough or the generals are incompetent/etc? Just curious if he had pissed off putin or something

From NYT sounds like he a guy who has a lot of potential enemies

——-

He was also one of the most prominent voices of an ultranationalist faction in the country.

“We want to kill every person dressed in the uniform of the enemy’s army,” he wrote in a Telegram post in January, after the Russian government proposed a brief cease-fire.

In recent months, he appeared to have grow increasingly pessimistic of Russia’s war prospects, saying that only a major overhaul could secure a victory.

He was critical of Russian military commanders and highlighted the problems of the Russian Army. In a recent [video], he suggested that nothing would change if “you replace the defense minister or chief of the general staff.

We need to change the system,” he said

This is crazy, if I’m understanding right despite a year of missile attacks Ukraine currently has a mostly functioning electrical grid???

Yeah this is why the risk of terrorist attacks on infrastructure are super overblown. Yes you can blow shit up… but you’d be shocked how fast they replace everything and turn the lights back on.

just a friendly reminder that destroying civilian infrastructure is a prohibited crime according to Geneva conventions article 53, except where “absolutely necessary by military operations”. which means each missile destroying a different power substation 30 miles outside of kyiv or lviv or odesa is a separate war crime.

yeah, this part has been pretty amazing to watch, although a lot of spare backup transformers and other equipment poured in from europe when the grid was targeted, ukrainian power industry really rose up to the challenge.

fwiw, a real story here is that remaining nuclear power plants in ukraine have basically carried the load for the entire country. renewables are great, but nuclear worked out in part because ru missiles are actually avoiding bombing them.

they weren’t above shooting at some administrative buildings though
