Whose picture is on your phone?
Been burning through hbomax while on a discount. Was going to see about finishing Westworld but I can’t find it ANYWHERE on hbomax. I feel like I am doing something wrong. All I can get is the movie.
Fml lol.
Maybe I will see it on Tubi
It’s not that good. That’s why it didn’t get to finish. I’ve very rarely seen a show demand so much undeserved effort from its audience. You wanna be some deep work of art you need to be good enough to justify it. Westworld was in no danger of that.
The first season was good. The second season was barely OK. The third season was (in my opinion) about as good as the second season. The fourth season was unwatchable and we didn’t finish it.
I’m sorry but that’s just not a very good show and many many many many many better shows will be released this year alone. Nobody will ever make a westworld reference that you won’t get because in 5 years almost everyone will have forgotten it was a show.
Sort of loved the first season, but given the ending I was pretty skeptical about how they’d continue. Not so well, quit halfway into season three. Agree that it demanded way too much for what you got in return.
TLoU game spoilers:
It feels hard to squeeze the rest of the game into just two more episodes; creepy snow town + Salt Lake City have so much happening, but it’s impossible to imagine them ending the season anywhere other than where the first game ends. I guess they’re gonna do it then?
Random question: anyone watch Halt & Catch Fire? Is it worth seeking out? I’m looking for new shows and seeing the main actress in Station Eleven reminded me I never watched that.
Solid prestige tv. Not the best but definitely 50% better than Westworld lol.
It’s good defintely worth a watch. Given your background I’m surprised you haven’t watched it
Pretty fun look into the early days of computers and programming with some solid performances. I haven’t finished but enjoyed what I did watch.
Same. Haven’t seen all of it. It starts off as a mad men copycat and gets way better after it abandons that idea.
it’s good and the technical parts don’t sound like complete fantasy if you’re technical at all, which for me is a huge plus. there’s some chuckles here and there but they mostly nailed the tech part. the character development is kinda hilarious.
silicon valley really annoyed me at times in that it was NOT like this (but still an entertaining show).
i dunno, i remmeber being pretty peeved that in one episode they spouted off a bunch acronyms (VLSI, AI, ML) that only appeared years and decades after the supposed show timeline.
i dont remember it being perfect but i’m comparing it to silicon valley, if i hear “lossless compression” one more time i’m gonna puke. like, real terms used in mostly correct contexts from what I remember.

So yeah Short Round is now a mortal lock for an Oscar. I thought Hsu had a better role than Curtis in EEAAO, but Curtis has surged in the odds lately. Definitely a legacy award for either Bassett or Curtis.
The problem with Bassett I consider myself a relative Marvel fan, but man Black Panther 2 was bloated and needed at least a half hour cut. Bassett still had a good scene or two.
Wild that he was out of acting for decades and then comes back and crushes this role. I posted in the Hot Take Thread
but he’s an exception, he was phenomenal, absolutely delightful.
Here is his Golden Globe acceptance speech
This might be the only time I recommend checking out a Golden Globe acceptance speech. How can you not love him?
That is the biggest favorite I have seen in a long time for best picture
When did this happen?
I remember looking at the odds maybe a month ago and seeing EEAAO as a slight favorite over Banshees of Inisherin, with Fablemans a not that distant 3rd.
