I saw some ABC “man on the street” interviews this morning, not one but 2 black women mispronounced Kamala’s name (“kuh-MA-luh”) and one said she was leaning Trump because Harris just copied “no tax on tips” from Trump, and also Harris lied about her heritage (“she’s Indian”)
Host: “She’s always identified as black.”
Woman: “Agree to disagree!”
I don’t think it’s going to be significant but there are black people who won’t really accept Harris (or Obama for that matter) as black. I’ve met one of these people in real life. Their position is basically that unless your ancestors include American slaves, you can’t truly understand black history and black culture, and you don’t share the collective trauma that defines the African-American experience.
It’s not that they’re voting for Trump, but more like “I really wish we could have a candidate that understands and represents us.
I encounter what I feel like is a surprising (to me, guess shouldn’t be a surprise if polls right) amount of black folks who support Trump and the reason has always been “good for my (or relatives) small business” so I think the Fox propaganda making more inroads there with time
