Stashing this to read for later, can’t imagine Ronan Farrow + Elon Musk is anything but a banger:
The part where some Pentagon official wouldn’t talk to them without prior approval from musk was pretty ridiculous too.
this guy wants to be lex luthor but he’s just some aspy edgelord flinging (outdated) poo memes. we’re so fucked
The article really highlights the tendency of people with the power to stop these assholes to let them off the hook, time and time again.
Elon has gotten over on a million Bob Mueller equivalents. An endless parade of government losers let him off with a slap on the wrist for all kinds of shit that should have ended him including launching rockets without FAA permission, blatant securities fraud and rolling out fatal self driving features.
Fundamentally, senior government officials are rich white guys. And rich white guys never seem to drop the hammer on their own.
Yea that was a crazy part. Putin probably told him not to cut off starlink… just send him the live map.
Good lord, federal government gotta start pumping many billions into spaceX alternatives. Relying on whims of musk for future launch capacity/etc looks like a fucking mammoth potential national security liability
why would they care? they’re getting what they want and now they dont need to rely on russia anymore.
I don’t know much about overall launch capacity but if Musk behaving erratically gotta think it’s could be a liability if he were responsible for like 90% of NATO defense satellite launches or something. Just doesn’t seem like the guy you want to rely on if he just going to haggle with Putin during a war
This but for Twitter as well.
Federal government is pumping billions into Felon BECAUSE he’s stopping progress on EVs, solar, batteries, space travel, mass transit, etc. He’s a human sophon.
Fed government pumped billions into SpaceX competitors. Only SpaceX has delivered so far and at a launch price that is a fraction of other options. You can hate Musk as much as you want for his idiotic behavior but he pushed SpaceX to use fully relaunchable rockets and succeeded where everyone said he would fail.
Sure but just because it’s cheaper now doesn’t mean it’s the best longterm plan to rely primarily on them if turns out their ceo is a national security liability
And it’s cheap cause he cuts every possible corner. In space launching, cheap will equal death.
I think the advancements in reusability probably accounts more for SpaceX’s low cost to orbit than just “cutting corners”. Melon sucks but their track record on manned flight safety seems fine thus far. Who knows tho I suppose.
Yeah seems like everyone genuinely feels spaceX the best these days. From the two folks I know working there (but haven’t talked to in a couple years) seems like even pre Musk going publicly nuts there was a lot of effort to insulate company from him. Like he would be involved in a meeting and tell people to do stuff then afterwards someone would be like change of plans we not doing that. And 6 months later same thing would happen and Musk wouldn’t remember what he had suggested last time so would pitch same thing as a new idea again
This Titan submersible seems a little flimsy, but their track record on manned sub safety seems fine thus far.
That’s not to say SpaceX is being as reckless as OceanGate, but rather to point out that we’ve got a sample size issue here.
Megalomaniac calling the shots. Give me a fucking break.
that’s from april?
I immediately thought of the Titan as well.
spaceX has a looooot of successful launches under their belt
I mentioned previously I have a $1k bet on elon not being wealthiest on forbes list by 2025, and spaceX is the only thing that has me worried. Tesla is in for a rough ride the next few years though.
