Seems like an overly restrictive definition to me. Standing their ground until an outcome like, say, giving McCarthy back the gavel would be spine-ful to me.
They’re never cutting a deal with the dems to elect a consensus speaker. I do think inertia and the ease of not doing anything leads us to neutered sort of speaker McHenry, which I also think prevents most republican bullshit like the impeachment investigations.
FWIW Bacon acknowledged that Biden won in December 2020, voted to certify PA and AZ electoral votes, sided with Dems to vote for the 1/6 Commission, and voted with Biden 29.5% of the time in the first year of his presidency. He’s actually a bona fide moderate who does vote with Dems on some stuff.
