Invasion of Ukraine: Why Doesn't Russia Concede Kursk and Negotiate Peace?

I feel like you aren’t taking into account how deflated and sad modern Trump is. But yeah obviously I could be wrong.

Also he’s going to spend a substantial portion of the remaining days between now and election day in court on trial for fairly serious felonies all of which will make the news every single day.

And then he has to beat the fact that, because of him nominating who he nominated, women in America have lost access to RvW and politicians aligned with Trump are trying to take away rich white women’s ability to leave the state to get access to first world reproductive medicine.

I just don’t see it. But I could be wrong.

This belongs in the hot takes thread.

I think you are not factoring in how much Trumpism has become a part of the identity of millions of voters, a way of life.

I fully believe Americans are dumb enough to vote for Trump again. We’re a bunch of morons over here.

people want fascism really bad

Yep and sadly, if things go in the worst direction, they’ll want the worst parts of it and believe they’re the real victims even while their opponents are drug away by secret police.

Was expecting to be embarrassed by this article but was pleasantly surprised

I agree but I think the guy who made sure to mention the positive economic impacts of the war in Ukraine probably works for a defense contractor lol. Also zero % chance the 51 year old Republican whose reasons for not supporting Ukraine seem to center on how many homeless people there are in LA supports any actual help for the homeless in LA. She wants them sent to camps and then she wants the weapons we would have sent to Ukraine to be used on them lol.

I imagine the impact more symbolic than anything but looks Black Sea fleet continues to fuck around and find out. Air defense must be in shambles though

Reddit Twitter repost people claiming the missile killed the admiral of the fleet. No idea if any that reliable or just people quoting each other.

ISW is usually pretty tame, they think something big might be happening.

I’m not a huge history guy but a fleets admiral getting rekt seems like must be a pretty rare occurrence. (Also notable this was a UK missile and Russia didn’t immediately nuke London)

The commander of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, Admiral Viktor Sokolov, died in Ukraine’s barrage on occupied Crimea last week, Kyiv said Monday.

“After the defeat of the headquarters of the Russian armed forces, 34 officers died, including the commander of the Russian armed forces. Another 105 occupiers were wounded. The headquarters building cannot be restored,” Ukraine’s special operations forces [said Monday]

it may have been the french missile equivalent to storm shadow. won’t be clear until some memoirs are published. as expected though, russia’s red lines wrto nukes are all talk and bluster.

russia has already conducted a controlled demolition of the historic hq building today. historically speaking, that’s a record-time FAFO that any hq has ever experienced. wish they’d do the same to the army hq in rostov-on-don, but UA would have to use their own missile right now. Though worth mentioning that the target is perfect for a taurus strike, which germany is now compelled to supply, since ATACMS is on the way.

i feel like the story of this hit is just going to get crazier

That story only seems crazy to people who don’t know all that much about how modern Russia is. The cynicism starts at the top and somehow becomes more cynical as you descend down.

Well the admiral allegedly appeared in a video meeting (but didn’t talk?) so maybe they didn’t get him
