Invasion of Ukraine: Why Doesn't Russia Concede Kursk and Negotiate Peace?

Russian judge Elena Lenskaya, who is sanctioned by Canada, arrested Kartasheva in absentia, on the basis of March 2022 blog posts in Russian expressing horror at the Bucha massacre.

Not as cold as I would have guessed, tbh, but there’s a lot of time between now and March 31.

Things are that bad in Russia that they can’t keep the power grid online? Boy I that makes it seem like they could collapse.

I was really surprised when they lasted 12 months at the burn rate they’ve had. The crazy ingenuity of the Russian people really shouldn’t be underestimated I guess.

The wombo combo of badly losing the war + brutal global sanctions… they can really take a beating to have even lasted this long.

Seems would be a big deal if Ukraine has ability to shoot stuff like this down. Seem to remember reading they only flew these in the most safe areas

I read that Russia has as few as 9 to 12 A-50s in active service. Only ~40 have ever been built and so far there are 0 of its successor, the A-100.

So did Russia bait Ukraine into shooting down plane full of Ukrainian POWs? Seems like something they would do but probably bad for pilot morale to send them on transparent suicide mission

Never blame on malice what can be more easily explained by incompetence.

The plane came from Egypt, stopped in occupied Ukraine and then flew north. Doesn’t make much sense for a POW transport.

Apparently 17 of the listed POWs on that plane had already been exchanged previously.

I read that but then why Zelensky saying stuff like this?
——

On this occasion it said it had not been informed that the airspace had to be safeguarded “at the defined time, which is something that had happened on numerous occasions before”.

“This can point to Russia’s deliberate actions aimed at putting the lives and safety of the PoWs under threat,” it added.

What you all make of all these rumors about Zelensky trying to push out the military commander and potentially getting “rejected”? I can only imagine the massive strain a multi year war on your territory puts on a government. Are things starting to fall apart a little bit? Still feels like big picture everyone on both sides waiting to see what happens in US election

I think that they have fundamentally different approach how to fight this war and Zelensky can’t have someone in a key position that is second-guessing or undermining him constantly. Who of them is right or wrong is probably one of those things we will only find out years after the war is finally over.
I am a bit worried that Zelensky who has no military experience or expertise doesn’t defer to Ukraine’s senior military leadership.

One of 20 in the Russian navy and only one of 4 in the Black Sea.
