Personal Economics and Financial Decisions

I suspect this is what many/most of us did at some point.

A lot of those were cheaper than i thought they would be.

I thought so too then I realized that was after tax income needed which adds what, 40-50% to the number to be the salary needed for that lifestyle?

When flying international, I’d fly business, but I’d put my kids in economy.

Fuck off yuppie breeder scum.

My car is reaching the age where it’s going to require expensive shit to be replaced all the time, someone convince me to not buy a Model Y to replace it without just pointing out that Tesla is owned by the king of all douches. I’ve looked into a handful of other electric cars and they’re either the same cost or slightly more expensive without perks like fast charging.

They explode and drive themselves into semis?

Yeah this. QC on tesla’s is notoriously bad, and not just on the “safety and not blowing up” metrics. Just google “Tesla build quality” or “Tesla cheap plastic parts” and you will find a ton of videos. They’re just extremely cheaply made for cars that cost over $50k.

And swimming pools.

Tesla is run by the guy running Twitter.

Do you get the full subsidy with tesla’s though? I thought they might have gone through them all. Make sure you can still get the big tax rebate through them. It’d be cheaper the.

I think bobman on UP has a Model Y (if you haven’t already asked him how he feels about it).

ICE cars explode all the time and I’m not paying the extra $15k for it to maybe drive itself at some point in the next few years.

His focus is clearly on Twitter though and there are actual business people running Tesla that occasionally get a note from their…ugh…Technoking…that they need to make the cars fart or other dumb shit like that.

Yes! It’s actually a big point in the Model Y’s favor because it gets the full $7500 Federal credit and other EVs I looked into like the Model 3, Ioniq 5, and Bolt EUV only get a $3750 credit.

Thanks, I know there are a few other general Tesla owners too so I might see if there are any huge dealbreakers.

My close relation with a Model Y with FSD reports that the new version that dropped a few days ago is incredible and that he doesn’t really have to do much actual driving anymore. So far no swimming pools or fire trucks or whatever.

If you aren’t super into the tech side of FSD and want to ride that ride as a hobby/for funsies I wouldn’t recommend.

I have a model 3 and I’m very unhappy with the quality. I’m going to sell soon and just take the loss. It’s not good (other than acceleration and one pedal driving which are very nice). Materials are bad. The software is absurdly buggy. Tesla is opinionated and often wrong. They need more thinking inside the box.

Friends don’t let friends buy Teslas.

I was wondering if there were non-“Elon is a piece of shit” answers (not that there’s anything wrong with that, but it is helpful to know if the car sucks, on top of the slight risk of murder by FSD incompetence) and that’s a pretty persuasive post!
