Germany’s version of LOL LAW:

non-paywall link

Though he is a former history teacher, he insisted he had not known he was using a storm trooper slogan. The words came to him unplanned, he said — ignoring the fact that since he was charged, he has twice persuaded crowds to repeat the Nazi phrase for him.

Slapping the guy with $13k fines all the way to fascists retaking Germany

The UK also has an election next week, in which Labour is projected to curbstomp the very unpopular Conservatives to lead government for the first time in 15 years, which would be exciting except for the fact that here’s the kind of shit they’re gonna do with power:

I feel like there were some hints they could have picked up on earlier.

It’s problem.

Höcke was convicted for a second time for doing the same thing again in 2023. This time he was fined 16900 Euros. He is disappointed because he had already planned on writing a book in prison.

Election Day in the UK. Here’s the inspiring Labour Prime Minister that voters are expected to choose in a landslide to kick out the Tories after 14 years in power:

The UK is not okay

Where do you even see vote shares? All I can find is the “exit poll” that shows a number of seats, not votes.

Haha:

A Labour blowout of the Tories while not actually increasing their vote share raises the question: where did the Conservatives’ votes go?

2019 2024
Conservatives 44% 24%
Labour 32% 34%
Farage’s Nazis n/a 14%
Lib Dems 12% 12%
Greens 3% 7%
Others 10% 9%

So while the Tory/Nazi alliance did lose 6% off their 2019 total, another way of looking at this election is maybe that Farage opened this split into a full intra-party civil war, playing spoiler for the Conservatives and handing the election to Labour wrapped in a bow?

The NYT has this article, Anatomy of a Landslide, with a cool graphic of which districts switched party in this election. I looked up the results for a random Conservative → Labour district (Sherwood Forest) and l o fucking l:

gjge Nigel! (but maybe :harold: if they get their shit together and take over the UK’s right). This is an interesting graphic too:

During the campaign, the Conservatives repeatedly warned their voters that abandoning the party to vote for Reform would result in more Labour victories. That turned out to be true.

I was surprised to learn that the UK has a pretty crappy first past the post electoral system. I assumed better.

Sound familiar?

Right wing doing worse than expected in exit polls

Well, half right.

Doesn’t this still hurt Macron pretty badly? I can’t keep track of the French system/parties

Yes, but the left won the most seats so fuck him :sickos:

The russophile extreme-right and extreme-left parties were already heading for a majority in two upcoming state elections in East Germany.

Today there was a knife attack at a “festival for diversity” with at least 3 dead. The perpetrator is on the run and has been described as “arab-looking”. Not good.
