Major anecdata here but I have two software developer coworkers (both from China, perhaps giving them the perspective required to be like “lol what the fuck is this insane system you dumb Americans take for granted”) who took the realtors’ exam or license or whatever to buy/sell their own homes instead of paying a small fortune for some clown to do it.
As a former Realtor, can confirm the licensing process is a joke, and most Realtors are indeed clowns.
In my state it’s a 75 hour course you can take online, then pass a not-difficult test.
If it saves you the 3% commission, and you buy 1 or 2 or more houses in your lifetime, it’s worth doing for that alone, and you come out ahead… if you have the time to do it.
There are states where you can’t sell your own house without a realtor? That’s fucked.
