Like if they had withdrawn kav and said “yeah our bad we probably shouldn’t nominate a rapist” then, what? It’s not like Nancy then gets a free nomination, they just go to the next ghoul on the list.
if anything trump was probably negative value over replacement president for the hardcore evangelicals since there is a non-zero chance he will try to appoint Don Jr or Ivanka to any available opening

This was always puzzling about the Kavanaugh situation, like they could have just been like “fine we’ll withdraw him and replace him with someone worse, happy now libs?” (like when they withdrew Miers to instead nominate Alito) and they’d probably be in a better spot now instead of the hardcore derpers calling Kavanaugh “woke” for helping John Roberts give the libs a W in Allen v. Milligan. But the sexual assault allegations made it even more important to confirm him, like they went full-on “it has to be Kavanaugh because of these allegations, not despite them”.

He was confirmed a month before the 2022 midterms, the longshot hope for Ds/fear for Rs was that Ds would be able to stall any nominee until after they flipped the Senate and then block any confirmation.
Especially stupid in hindsight given how quickly Rs jammed Barrett through but those were the times.
