They are MANY years beyond the Statute of Limitations which, in this instance, is TWO YEARS. More importantly, THERE WAS NO CRIME!!!

Sounds like one of his lawyers just had an actual substantive conversation with him. Assuming they are shoehorning the felony here, it’s actually 5 years, not 2, but it’s currently 2023, and the crime occurred in 2016, so they are banking on the covid tolling of SOL’s to pass constitutional muster. The worst part is, there is no reason for this. If he was going to be indicted for this it should have happened the fucking day he left office. The DA’s office did this to themselves.

It’s iffy for the governor to do it but shouldn’t the legislative be able to change the SOL at will? It doesn’t affect what the actual crime is and a criminal shouldn’t have a good-faith belief that he thought he could get away with it because of the length of the SOL.

The whole thing is ridiculous. His campaign conspired with Russia, nothing came of it. The Ukraine call was a travesty, nothing came of it. He tried to overthrow an election result, no charges. He incited an insurrection, no charges. He had like a dozen illegal uses of power to profit himself, no charges.

Charging him for this, after the statue of limitations (possibly), is just the dumbest fucking timeline. It’s definitely going to help him politically IMO.

But should they insurrect, Kevin?

Any BOLD PREDICTIONS for this week? Arrests? Indictments? Total nothingburger?

Still find it hilarious that somewhere there are going to tons of students diligently poring over collections of his tweets for projects/dissertations/etc. Like imagine all the footnotes and annotations explaining various references

even NOT charging him helps him, probably more (if the investigation is dropped he will absolutely go NUTS with the TOTAL AND COMPLETE EXONERATION stuff). Trump is actually right that investigating this at all was a dumb move.

If it’s the only indictment it’s stupid at this point. If it’s the first of 3-4 then it’s fine. The more he’s flailing, the better. He is never going to gain votes and the more obnoxious he is, the more the anti-trump turnout. Which drags the party.

Yup, that’s how it’s shaping up. Trump gets dinged for a campaign funding thing no one really cares about, Lawrence Tribe and the other lawbros get to pretend the system works, DeSantis gets the message that the POTUS is completely above the law when it comes to stealing classified material and launching a coup.

hey now, I heard it was a perfect phone call.

I said it somewhere a while ago, maybe it was here, that charging him now is the absolute stupidest thing they can do and pushes forward the TOTAL EXONERATION narrative.

The only way it’s not terrible is if they throw real serious charges at him, not this shit absolutely no one really cares about. he probably violated campaign finance law everywhere you look in his books, but we get this shit.

Ron will probably find out about this sometime in the future when he’s unfairly and illegally attacked by a woman (or possibly a man!) with false accusations.
