Yeah it’s definitely got some appeal. Makes it feel like the concept of designing a community around some shared recreational interests besides golf is something that should expand. Like build some retirement community around an undeveloped chill surf break where it would just be a bunch of olds in the water would be

It’s just becoming increasingly apparent to me that over the course of human history the bad guys almost always win. Even in periods of relative peace and prosperity, the bad guys commit daily atrocities against the masses with impunity.
Humans are fucking idiots, basically. And assholes. The end.

So if that’s true (and I basically agree with you), what then?
My goal is to accept it and do the best I can day-to-day with the humans right in front of me, which requires lots of work. I fail constantly but I don’t want to give up.

This is where I am.
I’ve successfully cut out basically all political news. I’ll show up and vote every opportunity I get, but I’m not engaging beyond that when I have zero chance of making a difference.
I try to be a good husband and dad. I can control that and it makes me happy, or happier than I would be trying to control shit I can’t even influence let alone control.
