2024 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION: Debate Night - Walz vs Weirdo

AOC knows she’s going to be called a traitor if she calls for Biden to quit, there are no great options for her.

she could just not say anything

A fair question, and I don’t know. I guess poor planning.

Ok but SCOTUS could rule that the electors from CA are not legit. Constitutional crisis.

I think this maximizes her EV of getting any of the progressive agenda passed if Biden stays and win. It goes from 0% to 0.00001% but what she and Bernie say doesn’t have any sway on what Biden does anyway.

Doesn’t have to be this, but if Biden is going to potentially be like Yosemite Sam firing off new policy ideas for a week they may be pretty progressive to try to make excitement so I think the progressives would benefit by being viewed as friendly to Joe

I’m not looking to get in a circular argument with you. You do see the irony in saying “yea you didnt watch it” to someone commenting on Trumps speech, when a month ago people were trying to make you understand how bad Bidens debate performance was when you refused to watch it, right? I agree with you that nobody can give a proper commentary if they didn’t watch it. Just looking for consistency there.

Both Trumps speech and Bidens debate were atrocious. Only people that watched both should be making definitive comparisons though. So again I ask, because I watched 0% of Trumps speech and I am genuinely curious, how did it compare to Bidens performance last month? Maybe someone who watched both can give me their take.

Can’t see Joe dropping out …

The only reason why this speech won’t hurt Trump is this kind of shit

Reality means nothing

If they’re going to do that, we’re already drawing dead no matter who runs.

I think she was on IG live, to put it in perspective (this wasn’t, like, her calling a press conference and campaigning to keep Biden in, just an informal chat w her followers talking about her thinking)

And as I think others have said, I think it’s totally normal for anyone on the left to take the pro-Biden line here because

  • they will be blamed for sowing division if they don’t
  • their opinions do not matter, nothing is going to change based on what Bernie and AOC want to happen, so the safe choice is reasonable for them

Very bad news if this seat is in play. That’s probably a 10 or 11 seat GOP pickup, and 11 gets them to 60. It would lock the Senate up for six years, too. No way to claw that back in '26 and '28.

I didn’t know Heinrich’s opponent is the daughter of Pete Domenici, a former NM senator who served for 36 years and was very popular. Makes sense that her last name will carry a lot of weight in NM and that she can pose a serious challenge for the seat.

Biden campaign going with “Polls don’t matter, only what people who show up to Biden rallies say matters.”

Meanwhile this seems bad:

She has to explain herself for her own brand. It is a pretty cynical/jaded position and that’s not what is expected from progs. I love it though honestly.

I want to make sure we agree on exactly what we are talking about. California’s statute says the Dem nominee needs to be certified 75 days before an election. That’s August 22nd. DNC dates are 19-22.

My understanding is that traditionally, the party would give an informal communication that xyz person is nominee and then follow up a week later with all the official paperwork. Part of the reason to do the zoom roll call is to get this all done well ahead of time to just avoid the inevitable litigation BS.

I wouldn’t find it to be a stretch at all that a judge would find in favor of a plaintiff that says that the Dem nominee did not meet statutory requirements and therefore cannot be on the ballot.

This seems awful and a disaster waiting to happen

Like I wasn’t around during the 2020 primary season on UP, but it’s my understanding that butthurt is still carried from that to today

It’s going to be the most D thing ever to finally come around to dumping Biden only to get hung up on the details of the plan and then be like well guess we gotta keep Biden

Ok, so if they finalize the nominee on the 19th, is the suggestion that they cannot get the paperwork in within 72 hours or whatever?

Fourth senator is a big one:
