2024 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION: Is Dementia Don Melting Down?

Saw that too and it’s a big deal. Those programs make my job so much easier.

Also - in a completely real talk stuff, it’s a good investment. Home health is a lot cheaper than repeated ER visits and admissions

Counterpoint: That’s socialism!

One more thing, a poll that’s national +3 but shows Harris getting smashed in Florida and Texas is a very good poll for Harris’ electoral college prospects

I mean DeSantis won by almost 20 points 2 years ago in a reasonably favorable environment for the Dems, and the party infrastructure in the state is in a continued state of decline. Trump winning by double digits seems infinitely more likely than Harris pulling out a surprise. The hurricane that’s about to wipe out a big hunk of the state will certainly dial up the variance though.

Yeah we need the NYT weather and politics guys to hit us with some maps of best/worst paths for each party. Guess that would probably be frowned on

I am very, very sure the hurricane will be because of brown people by like next Tuesday at the latest

I have huge reservations about funneling money from younger generations to Boomers. Millennials and Gen Z have been getting shafted by Boomers, who pulled up the ladders in favor of tax cuts and reduced social welfare. Now that they’re not the ones paying for it, we’re going to expand it for them? Meanwhile, I have no expectation of Social Security being there in any functional way when Millennials retire.

They made their own bed and we should tell them to sleep in it, which is still a lot nicer than they were to us.

Now if we’re just shifting covered expenses to at-home instead of in medical facilities that’s fine, but I have a feeling it’s going to greatly expand costs and that’s a no from me. (Though I fully expect my side to be the losing side on the issue.)

I would be curious to see stats on it, feel like currently a lot the expenses/effort of caring for the elderly isn’t from their own resources but instead from their kids whose lives are upside down trying to take care of slightly demented parents while raising their own kids.

Obviously there people with financial resources paying for their own elder care but feel like the burden actually more on the working folks caught caregiving both parents and kids at same time

Yeah but unless we’re going to completely fund it with taxes on the wealthy (never going to happen), I’d rather make it a matter of choice than to compel people via taxation.

I think 2020 showed us that a Trump win can absolutely ruin anybody’s life no matter how privileged you are.

Yeah I mean anyone living near a southeastern coast can eventually have their life upended by the 1-2-3 punch of defunding the NWS, totally ignoring climate change, and then totally blowing a hurricane response.

I think Kamala has been holding her fire of late. I think it’s going to be an onslaught the final month and she’s going to show no mercy.

Hopefully her change of gear doesn’t get screwed by hurricane timing. Granted if not hurricanes it’s Middle East or a bad day on stonk market. There always something

Vote by mail ballots that have been returned, by registered party I think?
