For a bunch of people obsessed with numbers data bros really hate it when you challenge the often very pseudoscientific assumptions that underly their model. The efficient market hypothesis finance academics in particular are wildly delusional. Honestly every purportedly scientific department in the business school at most colleges is wildly delusional… which is what happens when the purpose of your operation is to explain basic business operations to mediocre white people who really shouldn’t need to have this stuff explained to them to be qualified for the jobs they’re trying to get.
If there has been anything worse for the basic competence of businesses than changing managerial positions from ‘you are the best person to run this thing we have working here’ to ‘you went to business school have this carrier supply supervisor who has been here 15 years explain your new job to you’ I surely don’t know about it. The whole ‘management trainee’ → C suite route is a horrible idea.
Operating a business is a skill like playing a sport/poker/etc. Trading is a skill like playing a sport/poker/etc (I’m not talking about stock trading I’m just generally talking about buying and selling things in a profitable way). What business school is selling is theory not application. I feel like a top 20,000 in the world break dancer watching that goofball from Australia at the Olympics with these absolutely unserious people who are out here purporting to represent my field. It’s extremely tilting.

I don’t always switch parties, but when I do it’s to vote for the guy who might “accidentally” deport me and my family.
Good god this has been driving me nuts.
I work with a nurse who is great at her job, but also a moron in other contexts. She spouted some ‘died suddenly’ crap towards me once which I shot down. She told me all about how immigration is bad, and I responded with ‘Aren’t you an immigrant?’
Spoiler alert, she is. She came her from the Philippines when she was six with her grandmother.
I told her that I wouldn’t be so confident she wouldn’t be deported by a second Trump administration. She told me that she was from the Philippines not Mexico. She was awfully confused when I told her that she was kinda brown with a hispanic last name, and that she’d be lucky if she didn’t end up in Guatemala because they wouldn’t care.
She seems to truly think of herself as part of the in white group, and I wonder if she’s ever actually be exposed to some real white supremacists. She doesn’t seem to understand that they won’t accept her as part of ‘us’.
