I see with threads zuck STILL hasnt figured out that the reason IG reels havent taken off at all (despite forced adoption in some services) and tiktok stories have is because tiktok will let you link, view and embed stories without being logged in

LOL apparently you can’t delete your threads account without deleting your entire IG. zuck gonna zuck

Threads has some rough bits but it doesn’t have some random dumbass blue check fucking up every post

:vince1:

While I haven’t tried it (and probably won’t, at least for as long as it’s “opt in and then it’s there forever”) the idea of tying it to Instagram is a huge turnoff for me. Like half my Insta followers are my wife’s family who followed me to see the honeymoon photos I posted, I don’t want them seeing anything I would ever post on Threads (not that I tweet much), nor am I interested in what they might post on a Twitter clone. Instagram and Twitter are very different! I don’t want a product that merges the two!

Ed Zitron has more about Threads at the end of this post:

This might be even better than Musk and Zuckerberg getting into the ring. One of them is guaranteed to get hurt here.

Eh, Zuckerberg has been failing at everything for the last decade. One more failure isn’t going to be that interesting.

YET

Will never use threads or anything Zuck, but firmly rooting for him to take out twitter.

Yeah, it will be pretty satisfying if this puts the final nail in Twitter’s coffin because it will be directly because of Musk’s idiotic decisions that it was able to happen. He took a product that millions of people were literally addicted to and made it so bad a critical mass fled to the first semi-competent substitute that comes along. It’s like a cocaine dealer going bankrupt based on losing customers to someone cooking cocodril out of their bathtub.

I kinda wonder if any other big tech companies have potential Twitter replacements in wings but don’t want to get into a poo slinging fest with musk and his cultists so trying to wait till someone else has his ire. Kinda like the R primary with Trump

It’s like the opposite of brand loyalty: consumers are en masse desperate to get away from both of these billionaire creeps. I guess Zuck is less toxic than Elon right now, but I gotta imagine he’ll need to up the game to keep people from jumping ship to the next service.

I think there are 2 reasons we aren’t getting a twitter clone.

  1. For big companies - you’re instantly throwing yourself into “free speech” / “woke” bullshit that threatens your core business.

  2. For all companies - unless you let disinformation, nazi shit, etc. run wild and/or creepily stalk your users to hyper target ads, a twitter clone isn’t worth much.

I just want one platform that isn’t run by a Nazi or a weird lizard man, JFC. Unfortunately the non-corporate sites are gonna be useless messes like Mastodon.

I wouldnt jump on threads just yet. there are major privacy red flags - for instance, they arent even launching in europe

BlueSky sounds promising but I don’t have an invite and it’s a little Nazi from what I hear.

It is much less Nazi than Twitter from what I see so far (I’ve seen zero personally and can’t imagine whatever I can’t see outpaces Twitter).
