All of this does make it seem like the original Twitter management was pretty damn competent
Adam Mosseri (head of Instagram) has logged on:
Iâm sure thereâs a user base out there that is down with this mission and just wants to respond with heart emojis to whatever Taylor Swift posts but it feels hard to imagine this ending up as a useful platform for anyone we know online.
Twitter started off the exact same way though
Did Twitter ever make any money other than what Elon spent on it? I donât think there is enough money in a Twitter replacement to make a priority for big tech.
my memory of twitter was that it started out as a way to let people know where you were if you were (eg) barhopping rather than texting all of your friends individually (group texts werenât really a thing pre-iphone?). the 140 character tweet originated from SMS limitations as that was the original way to post and IIRC the SMS interface was still running until relatively recently when it was used as a vector in one of the spoofing hacks (possibly the one where someone got control of the accounts of bill gates, joe biden (not in office at the time) etc and begged for bitcoins).
HAHAHAHA
Need the lawbros to let us know exactly how hopeless this is and how owned he is going to get for trying
Itâs 100% hopeless, this is right out of the Trump narcissist asshole playbook.
Pissing off the most powerful corporate law firm in the world seems pretty dumb!
Powerful and notoriously straight up evil. I saw a write up where on the cons side for Wachtell in a stack of biglaw options âwill not go to bed with a clean conscienceâ or something lol. Not people Iâd cross lol.
This is the exact use case given to me by a buddy at work who was an early adopter. I did not create an account.
Letâs not get too carried away
The WSJ cannot wait to gargle billionaire balls with a come back story. Meanwhile even if this works it wonât have a material impact on Metaâs bottom line and zuck will still have wasted tens of billions of dollars on VR development only to end up behind Apple at the end.
Also we already knew Zuck could competently copy and scale a website thatâs what FB was.
If you look up âaverage tweetâ in dictionary that is what it shows.
Seems threads going way too hard on the moderation. But Facebook will condone genocide.
I dont think itâs really trying to be twitter clone. FB moderation has been historically terrible. they donât care. Theyâve made some improvements in some areas, regressions in a lot of others.
It makes sense to me to moderate aggressively there given the way they tied it so closely to instagram and its massive userbase (lots of which are not adults). it is clearly meant to be an IG companion app. was anyone on IG asking for that? dont know, but they recently added a weird feature where instead of stories people could post little text snippets but itâs weird and clunky and no real way to interact with the user, but people were using them like crazy still.
Anyway not saying any of this is good or bad just way different than twitter at its core and itâs weird because itâs packaged to look like twitter.
Wasnât facebook just a MySpace clone but for college students? Seems like lightning could strike twice here. This is just a twitter clone but no (obvious) Nazis.
It reminds me a little of what extremely early facebook was like and what made it very very briefly a decent experience - rather than being a neverending doom scroll of vapid shit and terrible creepy ads they think you want to see, you could see all your friends and acquaintances shitty opinions and network if you wanted. a while ago they made it so that your actual friends donât really ever show up in your feed, which to me defeats the purpose of a social media app.
If zuck uses it as just another platform for a fb-style massive terrible doom feed like his other apps, itâs gonna fizzle like a wet fart, people arenât liking that experience anymore
I always assumed most people on IG couldnât read. Guess thatâs egg on my face.
