Invasion of Ukraine: Why Doesn't Russia Concede Kursk and Negotiate Peace?

There is also a possibility that Ukraine is not going to use the cluster munitions as rounds themselves, but take them apart and use the submunitions with drones, which probably scares Russia quite a bit and vastly decreases the amounts of duds or unexploded ordinance lying around the country side.

To me the most problematic thing about cluster munitions is them being used on someone else territory putting their civilians at risk. But if Ukraine using on their own territory they can weigh these risks vs benefits and also would be paying attention to where they were used for future de-mining. I mean Russia has already mined extraordinary amounts of Ukrainian land adding some extra cluster munitions to known areas would seem like a drop in the bucket overall?

This still isn’t a good argument for us providing these types of munitions. There are probably lots of things we could provide Ukraine that would do a better job of minimizing Ukrainian losses, that doesn’t make it right to provide them. If we think cluster munitions are bad, we shouldn’t be helping their proliferation and use throughout the world. Your argument seems way too similar to arguments the police use to justify their ever increasing authority, militarism, and lack of restraint for me to be comfortable with it.

One of the reasons US is providing cluster munition is that the NATO stockpiles of other artillery shells are running low and production isn’t increasing fast enough. So the options right now are not shelling Russian positions or shelling them with cluster munition. Ukraine made it very clear they prefer the second option and we should just give them what they want.

Sounds to me the real problem is that a long time ago we should’ve been making other types of munitions and signed on to this very reasonable treaty. Doesn’t sound like they are easier to make or anything.

Russia starting a war to (ostensibly) disincentivize NATO proliferation appears to have backfired quite badly

Some good news:

Kerch Strait Bridge got hit again. Unfortunately only the road side, the railway still appears to be in tact.

I haven’t been following the grain shipment things too closely… So is Turkey going to defend the shipments and could that lead to a direct confrontation between Russian military and NATO troops?

I mean, anything could happen. It could reasonably be that this is just Russian rhetoric for domestic consumption that they don’t intend to follow through on, too.
