Middle Eastern Conflagration, Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, Iran

Right we would kill a dozen civilians for one legitimate target, and it was a questionable strategy at best that didn’t lead to victory. The Israeli’s version of ‘legitimate target’ is ChatGPT picking names of people they have a file on… and bombing that persons house, at night, with dumb bombs. They’re using dumb bombs because they want the collateral damage to be as great as possible. It’s the right tool for their actual mission because dumb bombs are cheap and lethal to someone wherever they land.

I’m sorry but the deniability here isn’t plausible. The Israeli’s are actively killing as many civilians as possible (because the goal is to empty out Gaza to make way for Israeli settlers), destroying all the infrastructure that makes sustaining human life possible, and actively designing the process that does that to avoid anyone having any direct criminal responsibility.

It’s not going to stop until Bibi is forced out of office because the second it stops Bibi will be forced out of office and he’s not leaving voluntarily.

The US needs to end the alliance with Israel and let the international community put them under the appropriate level of sanctions. We’ve been all carrot and no stick for way too long with them and they’ve taken advantage of our tolerance to carry out a genocide in an election year.

From CNN:

Guess we’re not getting a cease fire anytime soon.

Huge lol at the idea that the Israeli’s need to negotiate with anyone to stop the wholesale slaughter of civilians, much less a terrorist organization (that they supported to divide the Palestinian people and now that’s backfired).

I gotta say first doing everything in your power to prevent anyone from having any real legitimacy and then complaining that you don’t have anyone to negotiate with is the thinnest gruel ever.

Wild that the Paper of Record doesn’t seem to see its job as telling people about the occupation of Palestinian territory, rather recommending to “avoid the term and be specific (e.g. Gaza, the West Bank, etc.) as each has a slightly different status”. What if your readers don’t know about their status and it’s your job to fucking educate them?

Israel struck something in Iran sounds like

Bitcoin price dumping so not sure that meant serious or not lol

:harold:

ughhh it felt like Iran was really giving Israel an offramp by sending slow-ass drones they knew would get shot down, but they forgot that Bibi is a fucking psychopath and also that he needs continuous war to stay in office

My money still on this being a small attack just to say they did and Iran will talk but not waste time getting more drones shot down

They also sent a ton of ballistic missiles

Quick look at stuff this morning looks like it was just usual irsrael small drones launched from within Iran? That’s a good sign I would think

Yeah, looks like it’s possible this could de-escalate. Iran’s public reaction has been pretty muted.

The US might have fumbled the ball here a bit?

Looks like Israel was prepared to not take responsibility (still hasn’t) to let the Iranians plausibly claim whatever they wanted, but the US went ahead and told the media about the attack.

Maybe the US is pissed they struck inside Iran and was trying to get them not to, so went ahead and leaked it?

For what strategic benefit? Any escalation is extremely bad for the US right now, and especially bad for the Biden administration.

Seems a pretty academic discussion, it’s not like Iran doesn’t know what happened. And they can lie to their population just as well regardless of if there some news articles of anonymous US remarks IMHO

Everyone already knew who did it, it was just a way for the US to discreetly express displeasure with Israel’s decision without condemning it outright. Also makes it clear the US wasn’t involved.

Quoting here because news about a hostage deal offer seems more appropriate for this thread. I did see this article a few days ago:

https://www.timesofisrael.com/no-doubt-netanyahu-preventing-hostage-deal-charges-ex-spokesman-of-families-forum/

Hostage negotiations make a lot more sense when you realize that Netanyahu cares significantly more about their effect on his political career than whether they make it home or not.

LOL at thinking that “We’ll release the hostages if you go away and pretend Oct. 7th never happened” is negotiating in good faith.

Uh, neither is pretending that the senseless murder of children is a bargaining chip when the stated goal is genocide.
