He is never going to face a real consequence, I’m confident all these court cases will get dragged out till after he dies. That said, it’ll be fun to see him get charged.

bringing these sorts of rinky dink charges is a net negative to justice overall. there is a natural tendency to give ex-presidents a lot of deference, e.g. nobody thinks it’s a good use of the justice system’s time and resources to prosecute an ex-president for unpaid parking tickets. Wasting time on this just feeds the witch hunt narrative and now if the DA figures this out and tries to drop it, it just feeds the “TOTAL EXONERATION” narrative.

I don’t know that using campaign funds to pay hush money to a porn star you had an affair with really equates to “parking tickets” but the way the right has been able to normalize awful behavior from Trump probably means you’re right.
I mean I guess the hope here is what some people have been speculating, after somebody finally dips their toe into the water, then GA will bring charges next, etc.
But I agree he’s a lock to stall/ignore/appeal forever, the best we have to hope for is that it puts an entry into the history books where Trump is described as “spending his final years embattled with legal issues” or some lukewarm statement like that.
On a positive note, while 99% of hardcore Trump voters are going to lol at indictments, I genuinely do think this erodes a tiny percentage around the edges of the people still willing to hold their nose and vote for him, or maybe a few insanely low-info people who are actually shocked by him getting charged with anything. At this point it really doesn’t take much of that erosion to kill what’s left of his viability as a candidate, while still leaving him live to throw a hissy fit and completely sabotage a DeSantis run.
Even if Trump runs 3rd party and nukes it all, the actual policies enacted (look at 2024 senate map) will basically be George Bush Sr.
Kind of amazed Trump isn’t begging for donations based on the indictment rumors.

So it’s fun to see him mad.
I’m looking forward to Desantis trying to spend 6 months claiming he has no opinion on it one way or another

This indictment by itself is kind of weak sauce but hopefully it will break the seal for other prosecutors to move ahead with indicting for more serious crimes.
It’s so crazy rich business bros stick with him. He’s going to demand complete fealty then loot your business whether or not you comply.
