The Supreme Court: Clarence & Ginni Thomas Jet Set Edition

Because a lot of far right dipshits are also fucking morons?

I mean, Biden shouldnā€™t obey a lawless Supreme Court, but he will. Neither is ignoring the law-free whims of conservative activists ignoring the actual laws.

private company with absurdly strong results over a very long period of time. only employees can purchase publix stock.

as someone who can buy publix stock, itā€™s still not a great idea to have all your eggs in one basket. but the stock is really valuable.

for his grandma to have left him a few million in our stock she must have worked there an absurdly long time.

How do you sell Publix stock?

The report says his grandma worked there for 25+ years.

since it is a private majority employee owned company the only way to buy it is to work there. part of the benefit package for working there is some % of your annual salary is returned to you in publix stock. as an employee you can also purchase individual shares, if you want to.

for the esop plan, you can only sell stock after leaving the company. for shares you choose to buy, the company has quarterly buying/selling periods when you can sell your stock back to the company for the established share price.

there are hardship exemptions to allow people to sell their esop stock while working for the company, too.

itā€™s reasonable to suspect that this guyā€™s grandma never actually bought any shares other than what she received via the esop program.

if this judge has $2.9 million worth of publix stock, heā€™s probably going to bring in 80k in dividends this year.

Iā€™m not sure whatā€™s super special about that, though. Like a 2.7% dividend yield is ok, but not amazing. Krogerā€™s is 2.17%. Their market cap is $14 billion, which is a little over 10x earnings. Thatā€™s solid value, but given that the company is setting the price itself and the dividend yield is not super high, itā€™s not going to get a lot of upside on that multiple.

Itā€™s up 75% over the last five years, against 55% for the S&P, which is good, but Kroger is up 88%.

Maybe longer term theyā€™re doing better, but you also have to have a lot of trust in their board. Itā€™s so easy for the board to fuck the workers in this arrangement.

lol all of two weeks since Alito had extremely different thoughts on the merits of emergency orders

Such a great opening to attack the legitimacy of the Court. Thomas and Gorsuch taking bribes, Alito contradicting himself while whining about not being able to ban abortion pillsā€¦ And eDems too bought and paid for to actually want to weaken the legitimacy of the Court so they can pack it.

Itā€™s a real chefs kiss of late stage capitalism and floundering democracy.
