Whereupon We Pontificate About Poor Media Outlet Choices

Oops! My Harlan Crow-funded race science institute accidentally hired a Nazi!

This guy is like the Kevin Bacon of rightwing dipshit intellectuals. Every one of these wannabe serious people from Yglesias to Stephen Pinker is just one degree of separation from a full-on 4chan Nazi.

The media has learned nothing

“The media” is just a bunch of recent college grads trying to get clicks.

Over the last 15 years, pay for the media has both cratered and become increasingly incentive based - so it’s become more and more necessary for the media to chase clicks/views. Pretty terrible for society.

Matt Yglesias is the absolute worst manifestation of what’s wrong with the discourse. An ostensibly “liberal” commentator who magically spends the majority of his time entertaining such difficult questions as “what if minorities actually are dumber.”

Yglesias learned early on that making people mad gets you 100x more engagement than having something interesting to say. Just tweet out a zero-effort take like “Elon could beat up Zuckerberg in a fight” and you’ll get loads of attention. It’s a basic flaw human behavior that we are compelled to argue with bad-faith attention-seeking chuds.

Actually, I think Yggy recently had some kind of tweet like “I don’t watch baseball, but here’s a rule change that could make the game better” and like hundreds of baseball fans rush in to explain why his idea is dumb. Twitter gives people a financial incentive to be an annoying ass.

There was a big blowout in the gaming space about this with xQc (shithead loser who makes far too much money posting “reaction” videos to other people’s content and screaming slurs) about how they make money by generating basically zero content of their own. They just farm people’s emotional responses to their non-content.

Honestly thought about going down this road myself lately.

See, if you’re too obnoxious, people will just block you. You have to be wrong and annoting in a way that people feel compelled to respond to.

I dunno I’ve noticed personally when I stream I get more viewership when I’m yelling at my viewers or have a spicy/hostile title than when I am nice. I think the problem is society at large gives these fuck sticks far more attention than they deserve.

for instance, look at the thousands of posts in dumb arguments in the other site’s covid or ukraine threads. none of that “has” to happen, but people feel compelled. every yglesias take I’ve ever seen elicits the “wow that’s incredibly stupid and I never want to see that again” reaction yet he keeps getting reposted like crazy.

The picture misses the following one hundred posts arguing why Musk is obviously the wrong answer.
