It’s this. It’s also how you get guys like Prigozhin in Ukraine going from a hot dog seller to an oligarch. Over a large enough sample you will always get people whose luck runs like a golden god, until it doesn’t.
He’s not the hero. He’s the villain who teams up with the heroes for like one episode because of a greater threat, but really because he sees an opportunity for himself, but then ends up betraying them in the end.

the word in the cloud infra world is that gcp should be migrated off of because they cant be trusted to maintain their products like aws and azure can, maybe it’s some trump level accidental 4d chess going on here

We use gcp, it’s fine. They aren’t getting rid of it or anything ever. It makes more revenue than Reader or Inbox,… ever did.
I have a large wager on whether elon will be forbes #1 billionaire by june 2025 at even money. it’s basically a bet on tesla stock performing vs amazon + the luis vuitton guy. I like my odds

Elon finally made good on his promise to pay users for ads that show up under their tweets…kind of. A bunch of people (I think basically Brian Krassenstein plus all the worst conservatives you know) posted “omg Twitter is paying me <number from $15k-$25k>”. But then it turns out…
- the users who received it were clearly hand-picked, like catturd2 didn’t get anything since he’s soured on Elon, so there’s clearly not any system in place to keep this going on an automated/ongoing basis
- Elon posted that only ad views from Twitter Blue users count, so posting is only rewarded if the worst & dumbest people on the site engage with your content
