Politics & News LC thread - Vivek and John Candy were right

has trump blamed this on mayo pete yet

Sabotage? Terrorism? Seems like a great place to damage I-95. (Although underpasses may be a great place to have an accident—less visibility, oops there’s a Prius, oops now I’m crashed.)

Probably not, but the odds aren’t 0%. “Know your bridges.”

So grateful that my biggest customer is due west of Philly. I’m sure it’s going to make traffic in the region much worse, but I’m not as screwed as I could be.

lol this story is wild, imagine the kind of person that thinks ascending to this kind of middle-management post in some shitty state government makes them king of their little fiefdom or whatever

Someone told me RI local/state politics still have a large old school mafia presence so maybe these guys were actually behaving like saints

Unfortunately, in my experience this type of thing is really common. Not the shit described in the article, that was fucking crazy, but what you’re describing.

Unfortunately in my experience they’re absolutely right about being the king of their little fiefdom. The people who decided to complain most likely only did so because they’d decided not to go with Providence.

I listened to a podcast that got into the history of criminality in Rhoda island politics a while ago. Was pretty interesting. I just assume they are a more corrupt little chicago.

IDK Chicago is pretty corrupt. Both of those are old school machines I suspect.

I’m pretty sure Crimetown Season 1 was the first podcast I ever listened to. Pretty interesting and well-produced.

Brotherhood on Showtime was a pretty good show focusing on a guy who worked in local Rhode Island government and his brother who was a career criminal/mob type guy.

details still emerging but it sounds horrific already. 750 people were on a vessel of a size that probably would be rated at 100 max. They weren’t given water so people were drinking seawater for two days, and many may have been dying below deck before then. Just absolutely horrific. the Greek coast guard tried to help them but the vessel was so unstable that simply trying to bring them in with a line may have caused it to sink.

they’re only reporting 78 dead, but less than 100 have been found alive and they don’t expect to find any more.

I think this is where I am. Not popular here I know.
