The Trillion-Gallon Question: What if California’s Dams Fail?

Perhaps the overarching theme is that it’s kind of such a big fucking intractable problem that no one seems to want to acknowledge it:

It seemed unlikely that a third of all the dams in the state would fail, but would none of them? In Syria I was an elementary school teacher for 30 years, 3 of those as a principal. Here I have worked part time in a Kindergarten since 2019. I worked with an American ex-Pat engineer who claimed that periodically the workers would like the plant manager in their office until demands were met.

Anyone else getting hit with this crummy air quality? My parents live in the DC area and mom has asthma, I’m starting to freak out about that.

It’s not good and it will make a difference in the population level, but I didn’t see any big increase in asthmatics in the ER during the wildfires here.

My wife was freaked out by it though, and told me I couldn’t go outside (I had asthma as a kid)

Speaking of wildfires, I’m not sure if this was a national story when it happened but today is the 10 year anniversary of the Yarnell Hill fire near Prescott AZ, where 19 members of a hotshot firefighting team were overrun by the fire and killed.

Just unimaginably horrible and still a big deal especially in that part of the state.
