The Non-political ANGER THREAD

Most of the people I’ve seen who have tried it talk about how there is no lag with the passthrough video, which is (I think) one of the causes of nausea. The monitors are also very nice which I imagine helps as well.

Man, VR has been around for decades at this point, and it’s never caught on. I may sound like an old fogey, but it’s never going to catch on. People just don’t really like it (outside of playing with it as a novelty for a few hours). There is no market for this.

Edit: I guess maybe there’s a market for porn. But that’s a niche market.

I don’t think it’s necessarily going to happen anytime soon but i feel like it’s a mortal lock to happen someday and be a big deal. But might be 300yrs from now and brain implants.

End of day our entire life experience is essentially various data being fed into our brain so I see no reason to believe technology won’t eventually feed it into us well enough to change everything. Now who knows if that will be possible via screens or will need to be more direct neural stimulation in another manner

It’s not going to catch on at $3500, but when this quality of hardware or better becomes as affordable as a giant ass TV it will catch on.

Hasn’t that been Meta’s bet so far too with the Oculus, which has mostly not worked out for them? What’s different here?

The 4k an eye monitors, the seamlessness of the passthrough video, the quality of the motion detection, this hardware is a big jump over what is out there according to the reviews I’ve seen.

We are also in a paradigm shift. As life outdoors continues to become more inhospitable, devices like these will become more acceptable.

Idk about this one. Apple has always been ahead of the curve but complete submersion is unique. I always envisioned we would have voice controlled holographs before people would be willing to spend longer than a couple of hours inside.

it’s not VR though. it’s XR - you can sorta see your surrounding environment like AR but if something walks in front of your screen like a person you can see it (at least what’s being reported)

Wife bought this… item, and plopped it in our front yard. What most accurately describes this?

  • A cool piece of rustic vintage outdoor art.
  • Literally garbage.

Oh shit, I thought there were more votes…. Do you have silhouettes of farmers bending over too?

I’ll buy maybe you’re right, but it’s not going to be vr goggles.

Yeah but it’s still just not comfortable or natural to have a screen a half centimeter from your eyeball. It all comes down to that eventually.

Get a real goat and let it eat it

Possibly, people spend a lot more time staring at screens than they should. It will be interesting to see what happens.

my neighbors have an outdoor cat. my dog of course fucking hates this because the cat will patrol our front yard. The cat has occasionally decided to hang out in my garage which has led to her inadvertently getting trapped a couple of times overnight. overall I like their cat but wish she’d stay away just for my dog’s sanity (I also have been fucking terrified of opening the door to the garage one morning and having the cat shoot into my house and all fucking hell breaking loose).

anyway, this morning I hear my neighbor yelling, I go downstairs to see what’s up and I see this german shepherd mix running away from my house, across and down the street (I’ve seen this dog out loose a few times before). I see tyler (my neighbor jumping into his car with the cat and taking off. I knew what this meant but was hoping I was wrong. Sure enough, I ran into him this afternoon and the cat didn’t make it. She was still (barely) alive when they got to the emergency vet but nothing really could be done. I’m really sort of shocked that the dog even caught the cat, the dog seems pretty uncoordinated and not particularly quick but I guess the cat just got stuck somewhere in a corner. Ugh.

I never really understood people that have outdoor cats but right now I am so mad at shitty dog owners that let their dogs repeatedly get out and apparently don’t take any steps to correct the situation. Tyler is pretty shook and pissed, he knows whose dog it is, but doesn’t want to bring it up to them right now since he’s not in a mental state to discuss anything like this that could easily escalate. On the one hand I want to offer to go talk to the dog owner for him, but on the other I don’t know these people and have no idea if they’re complete nutjobs and don’t want to get in the middle of anything.

I guess it doesn’t need to be brought up immediately, maybe I should just let him sleep it off (he’s a litigator so he’s definitely not adverse to confronting the dog owner, he’s just smart enough to know not to do it right now).

Dogs should never be running loose. Tyler should file a report with the police so there will be a paper trail if the dog gets out again.

OTOH, anyone who allows their cat to wander outdoors has no right to blame someone else when the cat meets a gruesome demise.

Yeah I really don’t get why people insist on having outdoor cats if they don’t live on a farm. (I’m in a first-ring suburb). And I could understand this if the dog getting out was a one-time thing but I’ve definitely seen this dog wandering around a few times.

We have people who allow their cats to roam freely in town where I live too and it’s incredibly annoying. They’re a bigger nuisance than any wild animal we have in our area.
